On his 2021 tenth album “ORIGEN,” and its matching standout documentary film, Juanes passionately returned to his earliest guitar-driven rock roots in order to share a scintillating collection that reimagines some of the most important songs and artists that shaped his own early musical vision. Upon its release, Origen was praised by Rolling Stone as “A Masterpiece… an exquisite album that transcends beyond the songs, into genius.” The album WON both the LATIN GRAMMY for “Best Pop-Rock Album” and took home the GRAMMY award for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album.”

Now, Juanes has started to reveal his work of a new creative cycle and first new compositions in over three years, meshing his continued overall return to his electric guitar rock with a deep dive back into his own long-praised skill as an ardent songwriter – who this time turned his focus inward during the pandemic to reexamine life, love, family, and more of his own emotional intricacies and imagination. The first glimpse into this collection of elevated new work began with “AMORES PROHIBIDOS» – which imagines the story of the pandemic’s separation of secret lovers- set to a seductive musical fusion of Colombian Cumbia, electro rock/funk rhythms and classic guitar riffs drawn straight from the earliest days of rock n roll. The song quickly notched multiple weeks at #1 on Monitor Latino’s General Radio Airplay Chart in Mexico and was praised by the New York Times for ‘production [that creates] something quick-changing and futuristic.” . A much more personal track just followed with the release of “GRIS” – born out of a Radiohead influenced minimalist music style and a real-life and very emotional marital ‘Grey-period’ that many longtime couples faced during the Covid quarantine.

Both Juanes and his close collaborating producer Sebastian Krys feel this period of writing and recording- with focused time also dedicated to the study of poetry and further vocal coaching represents a new creative pinnacle for the Colombian superstar, and they look forward to the highly anticipated full-album release set to arrive in late Spring.
